Welcome to our Travel Blog

In 2008, we circled the U.S. on a six-month, 17,000 mile journey. We touched all the perimeter states, Mexico and Canada, but missed "America's Heartland". So, this year we will explore middle America, beginning with the Canyonlands and Arches of Utah, the cliff dwellings of Colorado and continuing on through the southern Rockies and Great Plains to Missouri. Where we go from there will be determined later. Please follow along and provide comments and travel hints. We don't want to miss anything along the way. Let's get started . . .

Preparations

The rhodies are blooming, rain is falling and spring is in the air.  It's time once again to get out of town and hit the open road to adventure.  After nearly five months in storage, the motor home has been cleaned from top to bottom, checked out to make sure everything still works, and she's riding on a new set of tires and ready to go.

We went on a short three-day shake-down cruise last week to check everything out and make sure we remembered how to do all the things on our checklists.  We camped near the Skagit Valley Casino north of Mt. Vernon.  To our surprise, we happened to visit the lunch buffet on "Senior Monday" and saved $4.  Unfortunately, the slot machines grabbed our savings (and then some) before we could get out the door.

It was rainy and most of the tulip fields around Mt. Vernon were already done (early season).  But, the few remaining fields were full of color.

Ron forgot how to program the TV to pick up stations with the roof antenna, so we enjoyed the peace and quiet and the relaxing pitter patter of rain on the roof.  We got the antenna situation figured out and are now ready to roll.  We'll finish loading supplies this Saturday and, if all goes well, we'll be southbound on Sunday morning.  Stay tuned . . .
